most people call him artie but you can call him anytime ;]
Artie is a queer hippie who tragically died in the year 1974 at the age of 27 with his then partner Ted. He is a main character in my story, Ghost Harem. Outstandingly kind and infinitely patient, Artie gives all the love he can to everyone around him. After taking pity on Sebastian and allowing him to stay the night at the house, he quickly falls in love - but he didn't expect that he would be able to express it. After almost 30 years of the two ghosts being alone together, this once outgoing and flirtatious man awkwardly attempts to navigate the new millenium via this interloper. Just as a heads up, I do plan on making this a fully fledged thing you can read/consume. If you don't want spoilers, don't read ahead too much.

This section will be brief, as this section of lore is still in development. Please be patient!
Artie comes from a very Catholic upbringing, being very involved in church activities (in particular, playing the piano during service) up until he begins hanging out with his old friend, Marcus Kelly - someone he had met at church as a young boy. The more the two hang out together, the more Artie begins to realize about his community and their hypocrises - and the more he realizes about himself. The two men go on plenty of sexual excursions together (with each other and in groups of varying sizes) and the lie that Artie is trying to bring Marcus "back to the light of God" starts to become much more apparent. When given the ultimatum of staying with Marcus and finding a new community or leaving Marcus and returning to his old community, Artie chooses to be with his lover. Their relationship was always incredibly open, and they had polycules of varying sizes while they were together.
Artie then meets Ted not long after he begins working at the diner in town as a waiter. He would go out of his way to service Ted specifically and attempt to flirt. Once he won Ted over he got him to join the polycule just a few months before Marcus had left. Ted had assisted Artie in buying a house for the three of them to live in when Marcus came back, only for Artie and Ted to unfortunately be killed in their relatively new home. Of course this is very traumatic for the both of them, but Artie takes it particularly hard. He needs almost constant consolation from Ted for the first decade after his death.
30 years of no outside world contact would make anyone desparate - especially Artie. Now having this new opportunity to experience the world again, he starts to work his magic on Sebastian which ends up being successful despite Sebastians internalized homophobia. While he is charmed by Sebastian in terms of appearance, he also has an urge to care for him as well - in particular because of the events of the first night Sebastian spends there. Artie makes a point to ask Sebastian how he's doing every day and what he plans on doing. If Sebastian hangs around the house, Artie tends to insert himself into whatever Sebastian may be doing - whether he has advice or small talk or wants to learn more about the 21st century.
Whatever progress Ted made on getting Artie to accept his own death on went completely down the drain. Sebastian's presence at the house, while it made Artie happy, furthered the delusion that Artie established - believing that he is still alive, and that "nothing of importance happened on November 5th". There were even a few circumstances in which Artie "borrowed" Sebastian's body for days, weeks, even months at a time in order to feel like he was alive again. An intervention was necessary in order to mitigate this behavior. Artie would also vehemently refuse to visit his burial site or discuss his death in any amount of detail, typically opting to not acknowledge it at all.
As a ghost there isn't much he can do, so whenever someone (typically Sebastian) leaves something for him to do, he is very grateful. He thoroughly enjoys when the television is left on, or when someone can put music on for him. He also enjoys flipping through books left out, usually left behind for Ted. Artie also enjoys discussing his life in great detail, and encourages Sebastian to spend copious amounts of time pouring over photo albums, journals, notes, and letters. Ultimately, it's up to Sebastian and Ted to help Artie realize that what's done is done - he has no other choice but to accept his death. While appreciating and reminiscing is understandable, he can't keep doing it forever.
Though it takes a very very long time, Artie does eventually become more accepting of his own death. While most the events that bring him to this conclusion happen during the events of Ghost Harem, a few very key events happen afterwards. For example, Sebastian having the confidence to date someone still living which inevitably keeps him away for long periods of time, and the deaths of a majority of people from the queer communities Artie found himself in while he was alive. Put simply, the less corporeal attachment he has to Earth the easier it becomes for him to leave it.
Despite the ups and downs he had after death, he's beyond grateful to have had an encore to his life - and to have been given the opportunity to help someone still living.
